Mala's Shortcuts

This is a place for Mala (B.B) Shrenan to record her thoughts about traveling in the World's Largest Dungeon..

Coldeven 8: Bees and Boredom

That next "broken" trap almost killed Eaora. I have no idea how I missed the lightening bolt trap. I never did find the thing, I had to deal with it using other tools. At least I seem to be earning my keep. I occasionally miss a trap, but I have been finding most and no one has died yet.

This place is full of secret doors, but few are locked. Very very strange, who ever heard of a prison where almost none of the doors are locked?

As I write this, this will be our second night in this sanctuary. We heard buzzing behind a door and thought we'd open it - we will have to think long and hard before doing that again. Those bees are tough. We are hiding in this stupid room (sorry Pelor, but I am bored and you are not being very helpful right now) while Eaora studied. I think Spike and I have searched the room 100 times. The room doesn't even have anything in it - no treasure, no secrets, nothing. We have been alternating searching with playing cards, but this whole adventure has been really, really, really boring so far. We open the door for a few seconds, Eaora casts a few spells, some bees die, and we close the door. Boooorrrrring! Hopefully, we can get out of here soon. The bee stings hurt.

Coldeven 6: Strange occupants of the prison

Well, it's official, we are in a prison. We met some of the guards today - actually, one of the guards rescued us. We had gotten in a little deep fighting some dogs we later learned were called shadow mastiffs, Eoara was knocked down and a woman dragged her out of the room. She called herself Sper and was different than anyone I had ever seen before. Sper identified herself as a Brelani, one of the Eladrin, whatever that means. Eaora later explained that this meant Sper was from another plane. The whole thing was a bit confusing to me, but hey - finding someone friendly was nice to see in this horrible place.

They were able to cure the filth fever that I apparently picked up when we first got here. It had been making me feel awful. Spike was also suffering. Asilky said it was due to us searching the room with all the dead kobolds on that first day here. Guess I need to be more careful when looking for stuff.

Apparently, Sper and a few others have been here for over a thousand years and said they keep the wards on the prison working. Apparently, the wards are starting to fail due to the earthquakes and because they have lost some of the staves that help keep the wards in place. This is probably why we were able to get in - or so they think. One of them is a cleric and is able to create food for us. Each day, he can make us food for that day. It goes bad really quickly, so we can't carry it with us, but as long as we stay in this area, we have food. It looks like we may be staying in this area for awhile. There is a forest somewhere close that we are gonna visit and see about other food possibilities.

We have also agreed to look for the staves that have been stolen. At least now we have something to do since it looks like we will be here a long time. According to the guards, the area to the north is very dangerous, and judging by the blood-soaked hallway I saw, there definitely has been lots of fighting here. The guards say the exit is to the north as well, so until we figure out a way to deal with the danger to the north, we might as well stay here. I think I could sneak past all of the trouble, but there is no way I could get the rest of the group past substantial danger.

Speaking of danger, the traps supposedly only work on those who are evil - unless they are broken. So all the dangerous traps I have seen are "broken". Oh joy! Wonder what broken trap I will find next...

Coldeven 4: They call me B.B.

My given name is Mala Shrenan, but few call me that. A few years ago, I acquired my current nickname, B.B. It is short for back-stabbing bitch and I guess it sums up a lot about my current life.

Lately, I am traveling with a few crazy individuals (some more crazy than others) into a very strange area. I spend most of my time keeping the group from getting killed by traps. However, this means that occasionally I miss one and eat it. That acid trap recently being the most dangerous one I have missed. At least K was there to pull me back and pour a healing draught down my throat. He is one of the two goliaths I am travelling with. How did I end up in a group with two goliaths? Sheesh, talk about making a girl feel small. At least K carries some of my stuff. It is always handy to have someone else be able to hand you a refreshing healing draught when you need it. Also, having someone else carry stuff we might need prevents them from looking at my more personal possessions.

We will see how long I travel with these folks. Spike is an interesting guy. Surprisingly, he is the only human in our group. I am also traveling with a dwarf cleric named Asilky, an elf wizard named Eaora, and the two goliath fighters K and Lo-Kag. To be honest, they are not traditional fighters and they are different from each other. K occasionally gets a bit out of control during a fight and Lo-Kag has an air about him that is different than most fighters. Maybe it will become clear, I am sure I can find out his secret with enough time.
